A Midsummer Night’s Dream

In May, the 29th season will conclude with a brand-new production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Julia Adam based on Shakespeare’s charming story of a world where humans encounter the realm of magic. With lush costumes and sets, the ballet will be set to Felix Mendelssohn’s beautiful score and will include students from Diablo Ballet School.
Orange
Music: Antonio Vivaldi
Choreography: Stanton Welch
An encore presentation of the sweeping contemporary ballet set to music by Antonio Vivaldi, Orange is danced by three couples and choreographed by Australian choreographer Stanton Welch who is the Artistic Director at Houston Ballet.
Such Longing
Music: Chopin Mazurka Opus 17, no 7 and Nocturne Opus 27, no 2
Choreography: Sir Richard Alston
Diablo Ballet will premiere British choreographer Sir Richard Alston’s Such Longing. Set to the music of Chopin’s Mazurka Opus 17, no 7 and Nocturne Opus 27, no 2, the dance work portrays Chopin as a young man in Paris, in exile from Poland. The ballet premiered in February of 2005 with the Richard Alston Dance Company and was later restaged for New York Theatre Ballet.
Encores
Music: Cavatina by Joseph Joachim Raff
Choreography: Sally Streets
Also on the program is the romantic duet from Encores choreographed by Diablo Ballet’s Artistic Advisor, Sally Streets. The full ballet was originally created for the company in 1996.
