Mads Tolling & The Mads Men

Playing the 60s

Mads Tolling is a two-time Grammy Award-Winning violinist and composer originally from Copenhagen, Denmark, now living in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2003, after recommendation from Jean-Luc Ponty, Mads joined bassist Stanley Clarke’s band and the celebrated Turtle Island Quartet. After eight years of recording and touring Mads founded his own band, which has led to several US and international tours. His credits include writing two commissioned violin concertos, which he has performed with US and Japanese symphony orchestras and playing for the Danish Crown Prince and Princess at the Danish Embassy’s 50th Anniversary in Washington D.C. Mads has performed with Chick Corea, Ramsey Lewis, Kenny Barron, Paquito D’Rivera, Leo Kottke and Sergio & Odair Assad. He is a current member of Bob Weir’s Wolf Bros & Wolfpack, appearing on three releases and over one hundred shows, including Radio City Music Hall and Red Rocks.

Mads now leads his own band, Mads Tolling & The Mads Men. In it he celebrates the music of 1960s TV-shows, film, and radio hits with his own distinctive style and innovative flair. Mads takes us back to the 60s serving up fun-filled nostalgia, exciting arrangements of familiar tunes and fresh takes on jazz standards and the not-so-standard – pushing the boundaries of where a violin can go. The Mads Men will perform tunes from their critically acclaimed release, Playing the 60s, ranging from “Good Vibrations” and “The Good, The Bad & The Ugly,” to “A Taste of Honey” and “Georgia on My Mind.” Joining Mads on this journey are his Mads Men—world-class musicians Colin Hogan on piano, Gary Brown on bass and Eric Garland on drums.
