Stars & Stripes

Music: John Philip Sousa
Choreography: George Balanchine

Featuring the Pas de Deux, variations and coda from George Balanchine’s ballet Stars & Stripes inspired by John Philip Sousa’s patriotic music. The ballet is dedicated to the memory of Fiorello H. LaGuardia, mayor of New York City from 1934 to 1945 and founder of the City Center of Music and Drama.

Elevator Operator

Music: Lesfm, Serge Quadrado, and Redeemin
Choreography: Amanda Ferris

An encore performance of an audience favorite by Diablo Ballet Company dancer, Amanda Farris. Selected by audiences from Diablo Ballet’s first Dance Laboratory in 2022, the ballet was inspired by Farris’ love of Bossa Nova music. Farris stated, “It’s unfortunate that this music is often relegated to be used as elevator music or generic background music, so I wanted to create a story where it takes the spotlight in a collective daydream. Using magical realism, it takes a look at how we can find joy in the commonplace or the mundane."

Forward Thinking

Music: Justin Levitt
Choreography: Michael Wells

An encore presentation of Forward Thinking by Michael Wells who just retired from the company this past May. This ballet was the first work he choreographed for the company in February of 2020 and is danced to music composed by Justin Levitt.

Pas de Deux from Sinuosity

Music: Enya
Choreography: Sean Kelly

This lyrical duet, which premiered in 1996 by the Houston Ballet, is a romantic work that combines virtuosity and athleticism. The ballet is set to an instrumental arrangement by the Celtic music of Enya.

La Bayadère

Music: Ludwig Minkus
Choreography: Based on Marius Petipa

La Bayadère received its premier in 1977 in Saint Petersburg Russia and is a story of eternal love, mystery, fate, and justice.
